Slurpee Addicts Anonymous

Hello. My name is Alison and I’m addicted to Slurpees.
About two months ago I stopped in to my local convenience store. Instead of getting my standard diet coke, I opted for the cherry and cola mix slurpee. One gulp of that cold refreshing sugar slush and I was addicted. At that moment I do not think I had had one since I was 17. I had forgotten how quenchable and delicious they were!
I started out just getting the small but now I am up to the medium and can see the transition to large fast approaching. I recognize the convenience store cashiers now. I’m afraid they will start to call me by name. I try to go only once a week but the hotter the summer gets, the bigger excuse I have to stop and get one! It does not help that I drive past two, TWO easy in and out stores on my way home either.
I’m becoming a connoisseur on slurpee flavors with the snobby attitude to boot. You’d think I was drinking Château Mouton-Rothschild! I can see myself now, sniffing and gurgling the slurpee, “airing” it out before I take a sip. My favorite so far is the Blue Raspberry. Apparently it’s everyone else’s favorite as well. By the time I get to the machine, it comes out like water. *HATE THAT* So I have to dump the whole cup and get my second fav, cherry and pina colada. If all this talk of slurpees makes you go out and get one, stay away from the Full Throttle and Peach-Mango. I give a big “GROSS” in my best Napoleon Dynamite voice.
And I’d like to voice my opinion briefly on the straws. Look Slurpee-Straw-Makers. I am not going to use that flimsy flared piece of straw that you are trying to pass off as a spoon. It’s a drink not an ice cream! Because of your not-so-wise invention, the last drops of my slurpee go undigested. I am not going to look like a fool trying to get that last puddle by wrapping my mouth around the outside of the cup. And by the way, if you made that straw for children, no child has the small motor skills to effectively “eat” a slurpee without spilling. Just be done with it and offer regular starws! Sheesh.
So all that to say, I’m addicted and the only cure is a cold blustery day. Which worries me a bit. Do you know where I live? It’s cold like 3 days out of the year. I think I need a support group. Anyone else have the same problem?

PS - Happy Fourth of July!

Twilight Castles

SCENARIO ONE:
Husband and I are taking a vacation July 19 through July 27. Our plans are to make a big circle. First stop, here:

After about 3 months of dating Husband, we decided to take a weekend road trip together. We settled on the 7-hour drive to Cambria, California, a beautiful scenic drive up the coast of California. Nothing but ocean views the whole way. We visited the Castle four times that weekend! It was there that I fell madly in love with the man who would be my husband. It might be just another vacation spot to some, but to me it’s a magical, romantic, happy getaway. It’s a place that holds memories of a time before the barrenness and I desperately want to get back to that place.

Our second stop is a quick one. We’d visit this place more often but it’s a tough drive from our home. And it’s not the ride there that’s hard, it’s the ride coming home. So as we head back down the Golden State, we make a pit stop here. Cotton candy, frozen lemonades and the freakiest rides known to man.

We’ll drive a little further down where we’ll meet our sanctuary.

A cozy cabin built for two at Big Bear Lake. Uninterrupted reading of my new book, peaceful napping, shopping, hiking, boating, fishing. Pure heaven! Just writing about it now makes my stomach all aflutter!

SCENARIO TWO:
BFF works for a killer company that put forth a challenge to all their employees. If they meet the challenge, they will be treated to an all-expense paid trip to Alaska. BFF asked if I would go with her if she won. When I asked when, it ironically is the same week of SCENARIO ONE. But Husband and I agreed, an all-expense paid trip to Alaska was a once-in-a-lifetime thing and I could not pass up the opportunity to go. The castle, the roller coasters and the cabin will always be there. Free trip to Alaska, not so much.

But don’t worry, we have big plans for Husband! If I go to Alaska, we will book a visit with his dear old mom in Florida. It’s better that way. 1.) I have a perfectly good excuse for not visiting the inlaws and 2.) don’t moms want their children to themselves? I mean, deep down, she’d much rather have Husband alone than me tagging along I’m sure.

So the answer to which scenario vacation we take will be answered next Monday, the day BFF’s company announces the results. I’ll be scrambling that day for reservations either way.

The real question is what the heck do you do in Alaska?

New hair

Got my hair cut this weekend. I wanted a longer version of Jon and Kate plus 8. The spike in the back is so cute!! Anyway, I feel a little 80's with a 2008 spin to it. Have more exciting things to report but I'll save it to type on a real keyboard and not my crackberry.

Sent from Alison's wireless blackberry.

17 home improvements

For the first time in 17 months I do not know what cycle day it is. For a girl who’s been trying to get pregnant for almost that long, it’s really freeing to not have to worry about turning on that monitor every morning. I wake up and have my mega cup of caffeinated joe and face the day childless.

I love, love, love Mel’s post today about being “SI”, Super Infertile. It’s taking awhile for me to accept that we are in fact, SI. I mentioned here how lost I have felt. What direction do we take now? Well, a few weeks ago Husband said he wanted to keep trying. Sweet soul, he’s in denial. But I told him that I was just not ready to face TTC again. So we have agreed to live our summer free of HPT and vitamins. Where we end up when the nights become cooler and I start planning for the holidays, I do not know.

So for now we are clearing our weekends for beach trips, camping and home improvements. We are taking a very much needed vacation the end of July and I’m thinking of getting tickets to here, a venture I have not attempted since I was 26. Sex is determined on if we are in the mood or not and the only thing I pee on is the water in the toilet.

If you have not heard yet, my favorite peanut Alison got some good news this weekend. Go visit her to say yippee and see why she is the cream in my coffee.
