About Me:
I'm a daycare worker in transition. In less than 3 months I am moving in with my boyfriend. He lives in Belgium. Sort of puts a twist on the "moving in with a guy for the first (and hopefully only) time" thing. In the interim I'm living with my parents and trying to lose my "I quitted smoking" weight so I can actually fit into European clothing. Oh, and I have a kick ass cat named Rex.

And...they're off!

Ah, yes, the beginning of NaBloPoMo, what I signed up for about a month ago, looking for a challenge. Oops. I've taken on a few minor projects in the meantime, so guess what? If I run out of blog fodder, you very well might see event announcements for the MMORPG I play or paragraphs for the classroom portfolio that we're working on at CHCC for NAEYC accreditation. Hopefully it won't come down to that, but consider you… Continue

Taking A Break

I have become a relationship counselor.
Of three year olds.
Fun.
Now
please pardon me while I spread honey on my face and plunge my head
into a red ant hill, cause really, that would be a lot less painful.

I
spent all last year teaching these kids to use their words. That is
like the mantra in the twos room at CHCC: "Use your words, use your
words, use your words." For instance, rather than snatching a toy from
another child, we tell the kid to ask, "How many minutes?" Th… Continue

Flank You Very Much

Watching CSI:Miami tonight with the folks and towards the end two of the crime team go to apprehend Julio (uber tattooed Latino bad guy...it's Miami, all the criminals are skinhead-esque Latinos with no restraint when it comes to inking). They go to this dock and when they start to walk down it, the police officer says, "I'll take the left flank."

The left flank?! Who the hell says that anymore? Do they even still use that in the armed forces?! I can't wait for an opportunity to use thi… Continue

Erm....hallo!

Hi to anyone who stumbles across my blog page. This is my first attempt at participating in any type of blog related activity outside of my own little personal one, which can be found at (shameless plug): http://lilacspecs.blogspot.com .

I couldn't imagine signing up for both WriMos until this year either, but I think next year, I may just be up to it!

Thanks! I'll have to figure it out first!
Can I do that in a week or two, maybe?
Somthing has come up, and I won't have much time to write! I'll be spending a week in Morrocco and I didn't know that till last night!
It's a very nice surprise but I'll have to plan my posts for those days! Thank God for the "draft" button and the planner!

Hi Korie!
Good luck with your move. I hear Belgium is beautiful. And if you like to travel, you'll love being so close to so many different countries/cultures; that's been my favorite part about living here.
My only pieces of sage advice:
a) If you can, sign up for some kind of intensive language course (if you don't already speak the language), that takes place every day for at least a couple of months when you first arrive.
b) Rent a box in one of those mail drop places in the USA so that you have a reliable address. We thought about saving money and just sending our US mail to a family member's house, but it has been GREAT to have a place where I can have boxes delivered, confidential mail sent, etc. And no family tension if some important piece of mail gets lost.

Enjoy!
Blythe

PS
Thanks for admiring Theo, I've come to appreciate his baldness as well.
