National Blog Posting Month
Every day she carries them with her. Intricate details of him covered in a fine layer of dust. Familiarities in a passing stranger begin to tug gently. Uncovering the slight nuances time had obscured.
A heavy, left-handed snap of his finger to a tune; a quick side-glance while holding back a crooked smile; brilliant half moons at the base of bitten nails.
Stunned. The moments catch her off guard. Each memory flickers, stealing a breath. Her plexus slow as her mind struggles for clarity. She remembers. All the secret treasures they shared. Safe. Where no one else can find them.
* This was my first time doing this (it was painful cramming it all into just 100 words). Please be gentle.
So what do you think? Is it Fact or Fiction?

13) *After Tuesday’s squirrel incident*
Mommy, why dat squirrel not feeling weally well?
Sorry for the short post. I spent the morning chaperoning a preschool field trip. My….. head…. hurts.
I am a total mess!
I committed a horrible crime.
The most gruesome act of all.
M.U.R.D.E.R
Yes, I am 100% guilty, and I am turning my self in…virtually.
Besides the overwhelming shock after the fact, I am now overcome with grief and fear.
It all happened so fast. I did not have time to really think things through or react appropriately. I am not even sure how much is my fault, or who I’ve harmed, because…because…because…I fled the scene!
Yesterday evening, Dadisodes called me from work.
Dadisodes: Hey, how are you?
Me: Fine. I didn’t have time to cook dinner.
Dadisodes: Okay. Why don’t you come pick me up from work, and we can grab dinner around here.
Me: Sure, I’ll see you around 6:30pm.
At 6:21pm, my distracted mind finally noticed the time on the top corner of my laptop screen. In a hurried mess, I ordered Babisodes to “Go Go GO!” put on her shoes, as I slid my feet into the nearest flip-flops. We were on the road in no time, me behind the wheel and Babisodes securely in her back car seat.
It was 6:25pm, still rush hour, but the freeways were surprisingly open. No congestion whatsoever. So 65-ish mph (104 kph) is where I coasted.
After a few miles, I arrived at our exit, a long 1-lane off ramp that merged onto another freeway. The car decelerated to conform to the bending road. And in the distance, my eyes noticed a small, furry animal scurrying out from a wooded area off the side of the freeway. My heart stopped. I held my breath. “Please stop running! Please stop running!” My right foot ever so slightly released from the gas pedal. I shoot a quick glance at my rear-view mirror. A long line of cars followed behind me at 45 mph (72kph). Swerving at this speed would not be safe. And braking could cause an accident. Oh what to do?!
My mind played a quick game of tug-of-war: Brake; Don’t brake; Brake; Don’t brake.
3,478th of a millisecond later, “Don’t brake” won.
The car didn’t even budge. No slight turbulent bump, movement, or sound. Just silence…
My eyes winced up a glance at the rear-view mirror to see the road about 3 cars back.
S-P-L-A-T
Breathing totally ceased. And so did my heart. I didn’t mention a word as Babisodes sat quietly in the back seat. I kept driving wide-eyed, fighting back the horror, shock and tears.
Minutes later we pulled up to Dadisodes’ office. My face and body remained statuesque, frozen in the exact same position as the scene of the crime. Dadisodes opened the car door to give Babisodes and I a kiss, and sat down.
Dadisodes (to Babisodes): Hi honey! How are you?
Babisodes: Good. But daddy…I don’t fink dat squirwell is feeling weally well.
Um. You honor? Can someone please just cuff me and take me away so I don’t have to explain this one?
R.I.P.
Mr or Mrs Squirrel
I am very, very sorry.
(*Note- Photo is not of the actual victim. No animal CSI pics will be posted here.)
The dark room fell silent. Only a low rumble from the bar patrons downstairs filled the room. Heavy smoke still weighed the air as the room lights slightly brightened. It turned midnight, and the musicians needed to take five.
She sits quietly at a small round table. A shadow nursing the same iced cocktail she ordered an hour ago. She watches it sweat slowly down the sides of her glass onto a white napkin. Her other hand bends and twists a Marlboro into a heavy glass ashtray. Her table tucked deep into the corner of the room, away from the tiny stage. Not that many people would arrive to block her view. It wasn’t about the view or the crowd. She came here for one reason alone. Her unquenchable thirst for jazz.
This place is her secret gem, a diamond in the rough yet to have its brilliance exposed by eager tourists or weary locals. A place she savors and tucks away all to herself each Thursday,…until she met him. A 6’1” tall glass of the town’s finest brew. The lights dim back low as the heavy footsteps from the trio return to the stage. She lifts a wisp of hair from her cheek and tucks it behind her ear. She glances over shyly to her side, raising a timid smile. Her round table in the corner is now a table for two.

Lately my mind has been a stir of emotions. A highly carbonated drink, bubbling over in chaos. Surprisingly while looking back on some of these memories (pre-Dadisodes), it is not the company that I miss. Or the late nights out. Rather, it is the table for one. Being alone in the solidarity of my own thoughts, wants, and desires. Not that I miss being single. Just miss having a single thought without being interrupted.
Oftentimes a lone, fond memory that swims among the thousands in my unsound mind suddenly rises to the surface. Sometimes they’re inadvertently sent floating up by the sounds of my favorite jazz standards. They occupy my thoughts for a mere few moments while creeping slowly along the edge. Volatile. Irrational. And then swiftly erupts into thin air.

This Week’s Theme: Support
I am terribly late in posting my Photo Hunt entry. Today’s theme really had me stumped. In recent weeks I’ve taken great strides in rebuilding an exercise regimen. So while hobbling around with sore legs, abs, and a major achy bum today, it finally hit me to post my worn out sneakers as my recent source of “support.”
Join in the Photo Hunt or find other participants at tnchick.com.
Only three small words
deficient during childhood
Little ears longing
Arms lay to the sides
or folded across my chest
Yearning for rapture
Endeavors to change
now fill moments with embrace
Affection abounds
I love you mommy
I love you Petey doggie
I love you daddy
A cycle broken
Confident arms stretch out wide
always met with love…

Okay, perhaps not by this dinosaur. But she did try. Here’s a better pic…

I’m late! With posting that is.
My aunt Flo arrived last night, and she’s being extra bitchy. So I’m a little behind on posting.
Today I hope to take care of some long overdue business. Some amazing bloggers have bestowed upon me some serious bling and I have been terribly negligent on passing them on.
So please take a seat and make yourself comfortable as I present to you the honorees….
Thank you Lou from LouCeeL & Grandy from Functional Shmunctional
Arte Y Pico Award: This award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creativity and their talents, and for contributing to the blogging world in whatever medium. When you receive this award it is considered a “special honor”. Once you have received this award, you are to pass it on to 5 others.
Narrowing this down to only 5 took FOREVER!
1- Maggie from Maggie’s Mind- Not only is she a wonderful writer, but following her journey through smoking cessation, fertility, and loss with strength and courage is more than inspirational. Her pics are amazing as well (Just don’t go over there if you’re hungry. The girl can cook!).
2- Brittany from Musings of a Barefoot Foodie - I don’t even know where to start. If she’s not on your blogroll, you’re totally missing out. I am fairly new to her blog, but her posts rocks my socks every.single.time I visit. Seriously. She is hilarious, talented, and incredibly addictive (don’t say I didn’t warn you).
3- Jennifer H from Thursday Drive - Hands down, one of the greatest writers in the blogosphere. When her book is published, I’ll be first in line to buy it. Jennifer manages to blow me away with just about every post. I always leave her blog thinking, “Damn! I wish I could write like that.” Not to mention, any gal who can make it to the World Series of Poker is incredibly cool in my book.
4- Holly from Anglophile Football Fanatic - Although she claims to have a big butt, I’d wager mine is bigger. She pulls out all the stops with her posts, and her former English teaching skills shine through in her writing. From fly swatters to her handsome 3-year old sweet darling (who BTW needs a new name, go vote!), her zany installments will leave you spitting tea (with milk) from your nose.
