Just shift your hand up as much as possible so that your index finger is on red instead of green, and do the reach for green instead of orange. You can't stay there all the time for all songs, but you'll recognize sections of mostly the green-yellow and can move up to accommodate. That, and use the practice section! I had to do slow ride on hard probably 20 times before I made it all the way through for the first time...
