I am a poet, artist, teacher and mom of 2. My plan is to poem every day and write my way to a nice little book of my poems. We'll see if the kids or the cats or the art students have other ideas. Of course, it's possible I'll have a bad hair month and get nothing done. Oh, and during this month-long venture I will turn 37.
Sometimes Plath mystifies me as well, which is what is so intriguing about her. The multi-layers, the bi-polar writings of a tormented soul.
I think what this poem is about, and I am a firm believer in subjectivity, it means what it means to you at that moment in time, but what I think it is about is this veil she wears of happiness to appease those around her. She even engages in daily activities like "When I am quiet in my cooking?" it is present, this knowledge of a lie. And in the end, she wants release for the torment of living with the day to day to fear of her own extinction by her own hands. Or perhaps she is longing for some truth from her husband, a truth she is separated by all the veils, the masks we each don on a daily basis. It could be what she is referring to is the desire for intimacy, connection, and honesty.
I'm not sure if that helps, but it gives you a starting to formulate your own ideas on what it means to you, which I think is the most important thing of all.
So I have jumped on the NaBloPoMo bandwagon and am seeing how many people from blogs I visit are participating... I would love to add you as a friend so that I make sure to pop on over and see how your month progresses!
I love your blog... and early Happy Birthday!

Hi jillypoet, yes I did do Poetry Thursday. Lately my writing energy's turned to mush, so I'm going to see if the whole napo thing can help me build back up with it. Will be good to read yours too:)

I've been posting every day, but I can't vouch for the quality.

A friend tells me you must have more than nine to qualify.
I don't qualify.
