Randomizer?

Last year, I made a whole lot of new friends via the NaBlo Randomizer and grew fairly addicted to it. Will there be one this year?

That's fantastic. Do I have to add my URL anywhere or has it all been brilliantly done somewhere?

When you answered, I think I should close this discussion.

I'm loving that there's a randomizer....but just how random is it? I know that's a silly question, lol, but in less than 3 dozen clicks through, I had 7 of the same blogs come up....and I know there are *hundreds* of bloggers who are signed up for this. Do that many people really not have the website listed on their profile or was this just a coincidence that I keep hitting the same blogs?

*Edit* I updated the numbers, but uh, one of the blogs I've seen 5 times now and another 3 times. :S I'm sure the blogs are loving the click throughs, but I wanted something different, lol. Hopefully more people update their profiles so there is a larger variety for the randomizer to choose from.

*Edit again* After seeing several of the same blogs repeatedly now, I've lost interest. I'll check back tomorrow to see if there's any improvement of people including their blogs to be chosen from.

I guess it is dependant on the number of people with URLs in their profile, but I just tried it a few times and got different blogs.

I just did ten hits, and got ten different blogs (none of them mine) -- so I think it's probably working fine.

One thing, though -- that I don't remember noticing as an issue last year -- but perhaps we need a G-rated version?

Or at least a non-porn version?

Well I did 10 hits and got 10 different blogs, too, lol. It was when I hit the 20-25 mark where they really started repeating and then by the time I'd gotten through maybe 50, I'd had several repeats to the point where I had seen some of them numerous times. And none of them were mine that I hit, by the way, either.....and yes, if I kept going, I'd get the occasional new one. My point was that I was getting some of them several times and way more than I expected.

Ah, gotcha.

Probably a lot of folks haven't added their url to their profiles yet -- not realizing this would be essential...

Spent a few hours on the Randomizer this evening -- very nice.

Are you planning to work up a button for us to post on our blogs, or should we just use last year's?

I did a quick button (as you'll see, I am not a graphic designer) and I'll put it on the "HTML Badges" page.

Thanks, Eden. I am a happy bunny, randomizing my way to blog oblivion. Thanks to you and others for taking this request to heart and making it work.

I haven't had any repeats, myself.

I think a rating system would be really hard to implement. Either people would have to rate their own sites, or there could be a "report adult content" button on the randomizer, but then we would need segregated randomizers and that would be kind of a pain. I think also that people's perceptions of "G-rated" vary, depending on a lot of things, which would make the issue even more challenging. It would be nice to have a button to report spam blogs though (I haven't seen any, but I imagine some might sneak in).

Yeah, I agree, actually. This is always a pain.

Folks just need to be aware that they may, in fact, encounter adult content -- and to proceed according to our own proclivities...

When I get time I'll put a little disclaimer up the top.

The randomizer's not working for me today. When I click on the link it either takes me to a page that says no one has added any pages or I get a random blog but the bar at the top is white and says "Not Found" and there's no link to click to the next blog.

Is this just me?

Yeah, I get the "Not Found" and then if I wait a few seconds a blog shows up, then I have to refresh my browser to get another random page. I will ask Bryce if she knows what's up, she is the genius behind it.
