I have had a blog for 8 years and have not consistently posted to it for such a long time. However, after I signed up for Twitter, I have found that it is much easier to get my thoughts out there, albeit in shorter form. I have my Twitter feed posting directly to my tumblr blog. Does that count or is this supposed to be a longer form assignment?
Well, that was what I was thinking, but started second guessing myself into thinking this was to encourage long form posts instead of snippets. Of course, I say more in a snippet now than I did free flowing, since it makes me self-edit to get my thoughts across in only 140 characters.
Thanks, Bill.
Given the number of people who are doing Wordless Wednesdays (and even complete photo-blogs), I can't see you getting marked down simply because you are expressing your thoughts in a brief number of characters. The point is to blog every single day without exception.
I dunno, I guess it depends on the quality of your tweets. I see blogging and twitter as distinct from one another - twitter is more stream of consciousness, and is far more interactive/conversational than blogging. However, it's been a huge boon to me for blogging. What's your twitter id? I'm magickalrealism over there - send me a tweet, I'll add you to my watch list!
I don't know that I would refer to every post anywhere as "quality" to count. Goodness knows that there are far too many "I ate cereal for breakfast. What did you eat today?" posts that I have made, and read elsewhere that are just as, if not more interactive than twitters due to having comments at the end of the post and not restricting who could read them. I will add you and find out what you had for breakfast in just a bit! :)
Twitter is a social networking device that is specially designed to be updated by mobile services (e.g. text message - hence the small limit on characters). Whenever a Twitter page is updated, a message is automatically sent to anyone who's signed up, even if doing so requires that message to be sent via text message or other mobile application Wikipedia defines Twitter as a micro-blogging service as well as a social networking device. It differs from a normal blog mostly because of these mobile-friendly modifications - the process of thinking up, writing and publishing the entries is pretty much the same, and the Twitter site allows access to those entries in the same way as normal blogs (that is to say, everyone can see them unless the user says otherwise).
You can also combine Twitter with your blog - there is a widget you can add to Myspace, Wordpress, and blogger so that your larger blog visitors can see your Twitter.
